Ball Season

When I studied in Vienna for my ERASMUS+ exchange, I entered a world filled with culture, traditions, history, art and opportuntities. The official ball season starts in Vienna around January and ends in March. If you want to immerse yourself in the Viennese Waltz, then Austria's capital is the place to be.

The ball season is more than just a celebration. It's a gathering of souls and people maintaining a tradition that dates back to the Habsburg empire where just aristocratic families were invited to dance. Nowadays, things have changed and everyone can be included as long they wear the right attire for the event. In Vienna, several balls can happen in one week. Some are more prestigious than others. Charity galas are very popular for the general public because the money is raised for a good cause which many people want to support.

It's important to book tickets in advance as some balls are more popular than others to avoid disappointment. Then, preparation for the ball should begin and making sure that the dance partner is informed of the etiquette of the evening.

There is huge a selection of dresses and suits that one can purchase at a shop. These days people buy their outfits online. Don't forget to buy or order accessories online? As brooch or the right handbag can make your outfit shine!

Last, but not least, practicing the Waltz and other ballroom dancing is highly recommended. To brush up my ballroom dancing skills, I decided to enroll for an ERASMUS dancing class shortly before the ball season was about to start. I managed to improve my Waltz, get to know other people, made friends and enjoyed myself a lot when we did the group dancing!

Enjoy the season and make the most out of it!

With love,

Natascha
